In MySQL 8.0.28, when doing a
SHOWstatement,utf8mb3is always outputted instead of theutf8alias. There is an additional note thatutf8mb3is deprecated and may be removed, and thatutf8may point atutf8mb4at some point in the future.On the
0.nextbranch, we've already transitioned to usingutf8mb4(#1875), so this is a problem that only affects 0.12.x and older releases.
